Giving Up My Right to Marriage

When I was a little girl, I spent many summer afternoons watching VHS tapes full of princesses, knights in shining armor, and eventually their fantasy weddings. These films discipled me, and by the time I graduated from high school, I was convinced that this too was to be my destiny.

Shortly after I received my college degree, I signed up to do a six-month mission trip with one of the largest missions organizations in the world. During this time is when I began to sense that God was calling me to missions work full-time…in East Asia. After much prayer (on my part) and confirmation (on God’s part), it was decided that I would sign up for an initial two-year commitment.

The one thing that stood in my way was the fairy tale wedding. How would I meet my prince if I was living millions of miles away from anyone who spoke English? What if the only men on the team were, gulp, unattractive?
