3 Reasons I Pray for My Blog

It seems like a semi-silly undertaking: praying for a blog?!  Aside from the fact that if it’s important to you, it’s important to your Father, let me give you 3 reasons why I make it a habit to pray for my blog (and what I ask for):

1.  I see my blog as an extension of my ministry.

My husband and I have had the privilege of teaching and discipling many precious individuals over the past decade, in many different countries.  Most of these interactions happen face to face -in a group or one on one, some through Skype and the likes.  But now that we are no longer living in East Asia and have full access to social media (a blessing that we no longer take for granted), we’ve felt led to make some of the teaching and insight that we have acquired along the way accessible to more people.

There are so many voices vying to disciple the nations right now: Beyonce, Trump, Fallon.  Through their words and through their art, they are sowing ideas into the minds of millions.

Some is good, some is bad, some is entertaining.  But let’s not be fooled to think that this is not discipleship.  It is.  Ideas have consequences.

We as a Church need to make our voice heard as well.  Not in a pushy, demanding sort of way.  But in a humble, strong sort of way.  Like Jesus did.  We are not just spouting off our ideas.  Our authority and reason for speaking is the fact that we have a standard of truth that those around us do not possess: a truth that can set people free if it is received and applied.

The platform of blogging is just one of the ways that we can share what we know.  We may not reach billions, but we will reach some.  And if we all join in and submit our voices together, our Body will be strong and many more will come into the Family.

I pray each time before I speak.  I pray each time before (and during) I mentor someone.  It would only make sense that I pray when I blog as well.

2. The Lord can give our blogs favor.

The favor of the Lord is an advantage that we as believers of Jesus have.  The world does not have this.  God is constantly on the move, trying to draw people to Himself.

I often ask God to pour out His favor upon us and the works of our hands.  Is this Biblical?  Definitely.

Listen to this: “May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us; yes, establish the work of our hands.” -Psalm 90:17

Blogging can be hard work!  I want God to give me His favor and establish the work that I put into it.

I also want God to increase the reach or our blog as we are ready for it.  I can make myself ready for more by being faithful with the little.  (This principle is found in Jesus’ parable of the 3 tenants).

In 1 Chronicles 4:10, we see a man asking God for more, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory.”  And God answered His prayer.  If our hearts are to honor God with our work, He will honor our requests.

3. God can give special insight and wisdom for our blogs.

Sometimes I just know the Holy Spirit drops down ideas for me to write about.  Some of them are just so wise that it could not be me!  He inspires me.  I have a whole list of posts just waiting to be written.

Did you know the Bible says that it is GOD who gives you the power to be successful?  (Deuteronomy 8:18).  God wants what you do to prosper and bear fruit, so that all can be done for His glory.  It’s all over the Bible.

I often ask Him to direct and connect me with other bloggers and advice that would be helpful for me.  Just like it says in 1 Corinthians 14:26, we are meant to use our gifts as a way to build up the Body.  There are so many amazing writers and bloggers out there who willingly share their knowledge as a way to bless others.  I want to do the same.

And sometimes I just get stuck in knowing what the next step is to take to help my blog move forward.  There have been various times where I’ve asked the Lord to direct me to the answers that I need to help me.  And sure enough, usually within a matter of days (and sometimes hours), I see the answer I needed appear on a thread or in a post or delivered to my inbox.  God promises to give us wisdom if we ask for it in James 1.  I try to ask God, let it go, and trust Him to bring me an answer.  Then it’s truly as if God and I are creating this website together (because we are!!)

And there you have it!  Three reasons that I pray for my blog.  I’m sure that many of you do so as well, and I hope that others join us so that the collective voice of Jesus’ bride will resound!

  1. Very true about there being so many voices competing to disciple the nation. Blogging is a great way to speak the truth.

My blog has long been on the prayer list that my husband and I pray through together each week. It’s a ministry, so why wouldn’t it be? Thanks for the reminder of how important it is to do this!

  2. Hi Brooke, Thank you for this post! There’s a lot to consider and think about as I want to glorify God in all that I do! Blessings, Janet

  3. I, too, pray for my blog & believe that God does grant favor on our efforts to glorify Him. If He has given us the passion & the words to write, why shouldn’t we offer it back up to Him in praise? I believe that is godly stewardship of a gift He’s provided. 🙂
    Thanks for sharing this post!

  4. It truly has helped me to see the work I do online as a ministry. But thank you, Brooke, for giving me more specific ways to pray more for my blog. : )

  5. I felt like smacking myself in the forehead just from your title. Why hadn’t I thought about praying for my new blog?? I pray before studying Scripture, I pray before I type a blog post, but I haven’t specifically prayed for my blog or who may read it. You brought up some great points and relevant verses.
